First off, let me just say thank you to Mirshalak for the shout-out. That was a pleasant surprise to find when I pulled up Google Reader last night!
Now I feel I should explain my Hunter, because if you look at my blog and then look at Hemera in the Armory, you might be a little confused. I am, at heart, a Survival girl. I love the Survival talent tree. I really do. That said… currently, Hemera’s spec is 43/15/3 in favor of Beast Mastery. I feel like I’m lying to myself, sporting such a talent build, but I know it’s for my own good.
See, I’m one of those crazies who believes that you can’t say you like one thing best until you’ve tried the alternatives. I leveled Survival, and, when I hit 70, I came to the conclusion that I should probably give Marksmanship and Beast Mastery a try, too. Partly, it was because I had been reading BigRedKitty’s blog since about level 62 or so, and I wanted to see for myself what made BM so fantastic. Partly, I just wanted to learn my class. Each spec highlights different aspects of the Hunter class, and I think you need to be familiar with all of those aspects in order to become a good Hunter. So. At least for the moment, Hemera is a BM Hunter.
My little foray into Beast Mastery has thus far been entertaining, at least. I’ll be honest; I get a little (okay, a lot) excited when I see Pixel go all Red Hulk on things’ faces. Still, I really miss my super effective traps, Expose Weakness, seeing those crit numbers… I promise I’ll go into just why Survival is so fantastic soon. There’s a lot to be said for it.

BAH!
BM gives you great big shiny DPS numbers and a bit more of an easy-mode life in terms of killing mobs.
But, as BRK and others have proven, it’s not the spec you have, it’s how you use it.

Oh sure BM is a nice spec for doing damage, and sure you can use your pet to save a squishy or two from a loose mob, but if you were survival that mob never would have gotten loose int he first place!
Anyway hope your having fun with your beast masty time, I just hope the world doesn’t lose another survival hunter to Brk and his dwarven charms? do I mena charms? no, whats the word I’m looking for? Ah yes booze!

I’m similar, I’ve leveled a char Marksman and I’ve leveled a char Beast Mastery and now I’m going to level a char Survival. I think that I’ll come out of it a better hunter. ^^

I levelled as a BM – in fact Kotaro is my first and only 70 that I have played since February 2005.
I remember when people snickered at you for being a BM….and now Survival has taken that podium it seems
Having said that, I am on an extensive journey testing all the spec combos in the PvP/PvE arena – and honestly, I intend to return to Survival when I raid. Marksman has it’s place in arena and battlegrounds, no doubt. Combined with Survival it is a strong PvP build. But for PvE, I could never go back to BM.
